MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY By Miriam Mukasa ARE YOU UNEMPLOYED BUT TOO BUSY TO HOLD DOWN A JOB? I recently had a meeting with a frustrated recruiter who asked me: Miriam, do you sometimes get the impression that some job seekers seem too busy to fit in a job? BINGO! I thought, he has spoken my mind. Lately, Ive been seeing a trend or rather a mistake made by many candidates with poor attitude and poor time management. Although unemployed or looking for an alternative job, they give the impression that they are far to busy to hold down a job. As a recruiter, the red flag goes up and you know that offering them a job would be risky. Why? Because if this candidate cannot even schedule their diaries now, when they are desperate for a job and cannot prioritise job hunting, then how can they perform once they are in the role? If such a candidate who cannot commit to an interview date and time and has the audacity to even tell a recruiter that they are not sure about their schedule at the moment, can they confirm the interview date/time closer to the day? Yes, my friends, there are candidates who say such things. Now I ask you? How on earth or rather, what would possess a job seeker to suggest such a thing? You are destroying your career chances even before they have begun. After all, why would a company deal with you when there are 100 other candidates who not only fit the bill but, have prioritised job hunting, are able to schedule their diaries, and more important, give the impression of seriousness. Remember, before you begin your job search or commit to anything, ask yourself this: Will I be able to commit to this and give this the seriousness it deserves? Is everything that I am currently working on worthwhile or worth more than securing a job? If the answer is no, then you need to organise your time better and remember, as busy as you think you are, often the person you are dealing with, is far busier. So get your Time Management and Priorities, back in order. Wishing you all, a week full of success and remember, many people work hard but few are successful. Often it boils down to two things: Time Management and Priorities. From Miriam Mukasa
