MOVIES THAT MATTER: APPLY FOR A SCREENING! The Embassy of the Netherlands in Albania offers civil society organizations, academic institutions and other interested parties the opportunity to screen films addressing human rights issues, in celebration of the International Human Rights Day on December 10th. For the 6th year now, Amnesty International’s human rights film festival Movies that Matter has compiled a list of five films to choose from. To order any of the films described below, please send a message before October 30th (!) to [email protected], stating Film order MtM in the subject line and include a brief description of the event you would like to use it for. License fees are only extended to screenings specifically related to activities organized on or around the December 10th celebration and screenings cannot be organized for commercial purposes. Also note that the Embassy is not entitled to cover other event-related costs. List of available films: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Children 404 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Russia, equal rights for LGBT, use of social media) Moving documentary on issues facing Russian LGBT youth, the way they deal with the recent ‘anti-gay law’ and the general homophobic climate in Russia. Through online interviews and video-diaries, forty-five young LGBT Russians open up about their experiences of discrimination and violence. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dangerous acts starring the unstable elements of Belarus ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Belarus, human rights defenders, freedom of expression) This documentary comprised of smuggled material and follows the members of the Belarus Free Theatre. Against a backdrop of oppression that followed the 2010 presidential elections, the theatre tries to raise awareness of human rights issues in Belarus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eufrosina’s revolution ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Mexico, equal rights for women, political participation of women) The indigenous woman Eufrosina struggles for equal rights and better living conditions in Oaxaca, Mexico. When Eufrosina is elected mayor, local legislation bans her from exercising her office because she is a woman. Eufrosina defies local traditions by championing equal rights and by becoming the first indigenous woman to be elected a delegate and president of the Congress for the National Action Party. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A river changes course ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cambodia, business and human rights, human rights and development) Documentary about an indigenous Cambodian community trying to maintain a traditional lifestyle within a rapidly emerging economy and industry. The film shows the radical changes confronting the indigenous communities. While once self-sufficient, families are now increasingly incapable of supporting themselves and young people move to the big city to work in one of the many factories. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Viva Cuba Libre ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cuba, freedom of expression) Confronting documentary about the Cuban underground rap duo Los Aldeanos. Through music, the duo denounces injustices in their country. The documentary shows the difficult situation for freedom of expression in Cuba. Two youngsters even end up in jail because of listening to their music.
