MQP - 6th Grade English - appears to be full blown Common Core. I thought we were just facing a Math issue, but I was wrong. It is my understanding that daily work is usually a short story or informational text out of the teacher reference book: "Daily Edits -from Evan-Moor". The students are asked to write a paragraph. This is a Common Core book and this type of work follows the new CC methods. (I would really like to see what information they are reading.) The other focus of the class is on Scholastic Scope (Common Core). The Scholastic program is focused on current events. I asked my son to tell me what story he read recently. It was the story of the little girl in Pakistan who spoke up for education in Pakistan and they shot her in the head. (My second grader overheard this and asked me if they were going to shoot me too.) I researched past Scholastic articles going back two years. Every month there is an article that inspires fear - themed around Death, Disaster, War and Violence. This bothers me greatly. Please take a look at the Scholastic information to see if you see this pattern also. I would be happy to share some of the things I found in these stories that I believe are contrary to our Catholic faith.
