MSU @ AUBURN: GAME NOTES Mississippi State (1-1, 0-0) vs. Auburn (2-0, 0-0) Jordan-Hare Stadium • Auburn, AL 6:06 p.m. • ESPN2 Mississippi State Storylines For Week 3 . . . •For the sixth-consecutive year, Mississippi State is opening SEC play against Auburn. •The Bulldogs are looking to defeat the Tigers in consecutive years for the first time since winning three straight from 1998-2000. •In the 51-7 victory against Alcorn State, Dan Mullen reached 30 wins faster than any coach in school history. •Dan Mullen also passed W.D. Chadwick (1909-13) for the fourth most wins in program history, trailing just Emory Bellard (37), Allyn McKeen (65) and Jackie Sherrill (65). •Mississippi State has now won six-straight games in the month of September. •MSU threw for 279 yards against ASU, marking the 13th time in the last 14 games the Bulldogs threw for at least 200 yards. •MSU amassed 556 yards of total offense against the Braves, the ninth most in school history. It was the fourth-best production with Dan Mullen at the helm. The school record of 645 came at Memphis on Sept. 1, 2011. •Saturday’s 37 first-half points were the most since totaling 38 against NE Louisiana in 1996. •The Bulldogs used 70 players against Alcorn State, 24 being freshmen (9 true). •Mississippi State had seven players earn their first-career starts against ASU — Chris Jones (DT), Cedric Jiles (CB), Dee Arrington (S), Kendrik Market (S), Dak Prescott (QB), Ben Beckwith (RG) and Josh Robinson (QB). •The 54 rushing attempts against ASU were the most by any SEC team this year, while the 87 plays are tied for the most in the league with Missouri and Texas A&M. •The Bulldogs are the only SEC team with both a blocked field goal and blocked punt and one of three nationally — Oregon and Minnesota. •In regular-season non-conference games under Dan Mullen, the Bulldogs are now 15-3. •MSU had eight different starters against Alcorn State than it did versus Oklahoma State — four on each side of the ball. aIn two games, junior wideout Jameon Lewis has caught 7 passes 90 yards. All of last year, he had 10 receptions for 108 yards . •MSU has lost S Jay Hughes and OL Justin Malone for the year due to injuries. •Season captains for MSU this year are Gabe Jackson, LaDarius Perkins, Tyler Russell and Denico Autry.
