MTHFR... no, this is not a bad word, it is in fact an enzyme - TopicsExpress

MTHFR... no, this is not a bad word, it is in fact an enzyme (methyltetrahydrafolate reductase) required for the conversion of folic acid into the body active form 5-methyltetrahydrafolate (Vitamin B9). It is also an enzyme that is mutated in at least 50% of the population. Methylation is a process done by the body that requires active B vitamins, namely B9 and B12, and is involved in body processes from how the immune system and digestive tract function, to detoxification, to hormone production, energy production, mental activity, and much more. Issues with these mechanisms manifest in the body as Cardiovascular diseases, Autism and ADHD, Anxiety and Depression, Fatigue, Cancer, and more. If you eat loads of leafy green vegetables and have a very relaxing, stress free lifestyle, even having a defect probably isnt an issue for you... but since this isnt the case for most people and this mutation is so prevalent, this is a very important topic! Especially if you are pregnant. If you have a free hour to listen to this interview with Dr. Ben Lynch, please take the time to do so, and pass it on to anyone else who may be interested. Want to know more about the genetic testing mentioned in the video? I am able to offer these tests in my office, so come in and discuss things.
