MULUND HOSTS TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP, THANE TEAM WINS By: B B Nayak The rejuvenated team of Tilak Chess Academy (TCA), Thane reigned supreme at the 2nd Rucha Open Chess Team Championship Trophy held in Mulund recently, with its young players dominating the competition amidst tough show. Over 80 National Fide rated players were in the fray to flaunt their calculated move at the championship. This was the second such tournament held in Mumbai region in team format comprising four players each. More than 60 teams participated in the show, organised Dr Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation. The TCA stole the show with most of the titles -- both team and individual awards. The association retained the title for the second year in row, and won the first prize with a cash prize Rs 5,000. It was a field day for Tilak Chess Academy that not only won the top prize, but its women’s team also secured second rank to win Rs 3,000. TCA’s under-14, under-12 and under-8 teams group captured three board prizes out of four. The third place in the open group was won by Challenging Knights having 2000 rating with 20 points. Invictus Team and Data Virus team scored 20 points and 19.5 points for fourth and fifth spots respectively.
