MUMBAI : After successfully discharging 26,000MTs of coal in 24 hours a few months ago, Dighi Port has created another milestone in operation efficiency this time while discharging steel coils. The vessel MV Fon Tai called Dighi Port on 14th March 2014 and within 24 hours of operation 19,348MTs of Cold Rolled (CR) Steel Coils were discharged from the vessel thereby creating a new handling record at the port. M/s POSCO ISDC was the importer of the cargo. Dighi Port is an all weather, deep draft, direct berthing port located on the West Coast of India, in the Raigad District of Maharashtra at a distance of 170 kms south of Mumbai. The port is developed on the two banks of the Rajpuri Creek namely the North and South Bank and is a multi-purpose port which can handle dry bulk, break-bulk, liquid, LNG, Containers and RORO cargo. Dighi Port has commissioned 2 multipurpose berths having a single linear quay length of 650m, the longest quay length by a non-major port in the state of Maharashtra and has been handling regular dry bulk and break-bulk shipments such Coal, Steel, Bauxite and HBI and has handled in excess of 4 million MTs till date. Apart from the 2 multipurpose berths on the South Bank that are already commissioned, 3 more multipurpose berths having a total quay length of 1100m are under construction on the North Bank and will be commissioned by the last quarter of 2014. The port also offers a huge land bank in excess of 1600 acres. Last but not the least, Dighi Port is also the largest node of the prestigious Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) in Maharashtra and has also been declared as a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) under the Government of India’s new manufacturing Policy.
