MUST READ ,ABOUT THE CONDITION OF MUSLIMS IN GUJARAT..BETTER.Modi has won over Gujarati Muslim heartsIn the recently concluded Gujarat civic poll, the BJP won all 27 seats in Salaya municipality, a Muslim-majority town in Jamnagar district. Of the 27 winning candidates, 24 are Muslims and the remaining three are Hindus. Not to forgetten is the fact that in the last Gujarat Assembly election, BJP won 12 out of 19 Muslim-dominated constituencies.Muslims in Gujarat are better off than their counterparts in other States. The Sachar Committee — appointed by the Congress-led UPA to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in the country brought home this very fact. The Sachar Committee report says that in terms of literacy, Muslims in Gujarat stand at 73.5 per cent as compared to the national average of 59.1 per cent. In terms of per month and per capita income, the report says Muslims in urban Gujarat earn an average of Rs 875 which is more than the national average of Rs 804. Similarly in rural Gujarat, Muslims earn an average of Rs 668 as compared to the national average of Rs 553. According to the Sachar Committee findings, in terms of the share of Muslims in Government jobs, Gujarat fares well at 5.4 per cent in comparison to 2.1 per cent in West Bengal, 3.2 per cent in Delhi and 4.4 per cent in Maharashtra.
