*MUST READ* ERRONEOUS NOTION OF THE LEARNING PROCESS OF MAJORITY STUDENTS IN 9JA.. A lot of Students in 9ja have an erroneous notion of the LEARNING process & they think it is a passive one. Their perception of it goes thus:: they will wait till the Teacher/lecturer comes in & start teaching. The Teacher/Lecturer may tell you what the Topic is before He starts or He may expect you to guess it as He goes along. Anyway, you listen to him & take note if he writes them on the Board & tells you to copy them. When the lesson is over, you Close your book & leave it Closed till the next lesson. Frantically @ the end of the Time or year you LEARN by Heart those INCOMPREHENSIBLE NOTES & pour them out during the Examination. Little or no LEARNING takes place. There are, however, a number of Methods a STUDENT can employ to make LEARNING more effective. FIRST, it is a useful idea to get to know in advance what topics are planned for the term, for the week & eventually for the Lesson. One can do some reading on the Topics before hand. Even if the Topics seems somewhat confusing the STUDENT will have an Idea of where hs difficulties are. A first quik skimming will give an idea of the general direction of the WRITERs thoughts. Later, a more careful Reading will give more detailed Information. During the Lesson/lecture, the STUDENT must listen with rapt attention & be ready to ask questions if he does not understand. It is a good habit to try to pick out important point as the lesson/lecture proceeds. These point may be writen in a notebook. If the Teacher/lecturer does not give notes then @least there is something written down as a reminder of what has been said. And if the Teacher give note to be copied, the STUDENTs own notes may be compared with the Teacher s so as to discover how well the STUDENT has understood the Topic taught. As soon as possible after the Lesson/Lecture, Re-read the notes so asto correct any errors made when Writing @speed. Then try & recall the main point of the Lesson/lecture. Another useful Idea is discuss th main point of the Lesson/Lecture with Friends as this will help the STUDENT to better understand the points. This will also give him a clear picture of what the lesson is all about. FINALLY; as the week go by, the Notes & the Yextbooks should be Re-read @ intervals. In this way the STUDENT will be able to build up an overall picture of what has been taught so Far. This will Help the Student in understanding better where all the part of the subject fit & will make future lessons more Comprehensible. WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST OF LUCKs Enrollees.
