MUTHARIKA PICKS 35 RELATIVES FOR UN SUMMIT, BEN PHIRI TAKES WIFE AND BROTHER ON BOARD Details are still emerging of President Mutharikas delegation to the United Nations General Assembly with new revelations showing that 35 of the 69 people are his relatives and that of the First Lady. Inside sources from State House told Malawi Daily Mail that the picking exercise was left in the hands of Presidential aide, Ben Phiri and the First Lady, Hendrina. The initial list had a good mixture of professionals and civil servants but it was changed two weeks before the trip to include family members. Imagine Ben Phiri included his wife and his younger brother Martin Nkasala on the trip when the two have nothing to do on such a trip, said our source. The other members of the family are cousins to Ben Phiri and others from Balaka where the First Lady originates from. On average, every member of the contingent gets close to K5 million in allowances.
