MY 90s - When the doors opened on my screen to let through a stinkfist, an enigmatic world was introduced to my senses that synthesized a lot of things I treasured. From Polish and Czech 70s avant-garde animation to the stop-motion wonders of Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers, Kafkas claustrophobias, Pink Floyds Ummagumma-ness, Timothy Learys third eye psychedelia - and so much more! A trip I made to Bordeaux with Tiago Lopes, Aurora Ribeiro and a few more friends that included soundtrack by Tool, readings of Jodorowsky, talks on lucid dreaming and those beautiful Pyrenees transformed it into an alchemical road trip. Which is exactly the sort of fascination that Maynard and the boys have on my generation, and what turned them from a very interesting alternative metal group of brilliant musicians into the mysterious progressive art phenomena they are. Tool is quite simply the King Crimson of the 90s.
