My Days of Dave. I once dubbed a previously aired episode from English into English: transcribed it, stripped off the original audio, and replaced it with other actors taking the parts. Not wacky comical voices, plausible voices, replicating every syllable of the original. Larry Pine, a New York stage actor, played Dave: he sounds like a host, just not our host. I hoped that this small change would reveal every cliché and mannerism of the show. A joy of working there: Dave knew why we should run the thing with no advance PR. Another joy: it broke our record – held by me -- for complaining calls. Viewers phoned NBC distressed that something was wrong with the audio. Here’s a clip.
