MY CHRISTMAS MESSAGE I have observed the inane debate about America’s religious heritage and the ongoing argument about separation of Church and State. I have to say that from what I can see this entire attack on the idea of the existence of a traditional Christian Heritage in the US is simply dishonest. I observe the following: 1) In the USA, neither Deepawali nor Holi are national holidays. Being open minded as I am, I consider that this may be the case due to the fact that the US has a Christian Heritage rather than a Hindu Heritage. 2) In the USA, neither Vesak nor Kathina/Loy Krathong are national holidays. Again, I consider that this may be the case due to the fact that the US has a Christian Heritage rather than a Buddhism Heritage. 3) In the USA, neither Muharram nor Mawlid al-Nabi are national holidays. I consider that this may be the case due to the fact that the US has a Christian Heritage rather than an Islamic Heritage. 4) In the USA, neither Yom Kippur nor Rosh Hashana are national holidays. I consider that this may be the case due to the fact that the US has a Christian Heritage rather than a Judaic Heritage. 5) In the USA, neither Qingming nor Snagdi’s birthday are national holidays. I consider that this may be the case due to the fact that the US has a Christian Heritage rather than a Confucianism Heritage. 6) Of 10 National Holidays in the USA only two have religious connotations. One is Thanksgiving which celebrates the annual harvest and goes back to religious pilgrims’ (Christians) celebration and feast shared with indigenous Americans. The other religious National Holiday is Christmas day. I consider this may be true due to the fact that ours is a Christian Heritage. In any case, I don’t see the benefit we derive from the argument so I say to you… MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
