MY DEVOTIONAL Exodus 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. The children of Israel who had in some few days seen the glory of God who brought them up out of Egypt had so soon forgotten about Jehovah God and were now worshiping an image which they had made with their ornaments. All the greatness that the Lord had showed them they ascribed to the golden calf which they had made with their hand. Imagine! They told themselves that it was that idol which delivered them from Egypt. Aaron the high priest who should have known better then went ahead and built an altar before this image god, as if to mock God and they made offerings and sacrifices on it to the god. An interesting phenomenon is that they made the feast to their image god under the pretence of unto Jehovah. They deceived their mind to think that what they were doing was unto God. The mind is powerful and can be very deceptive. The line from turning from the true God to backsliding and falling away into sin which you cannot imagine is very thin and slippery. And your slip can be very fast, therefore you have to guard yourself and be always alert in the Lord not making any room which the devil could capitalise on.
