MY EXPERIENCE WITH FENUGREEK SEEDS: After combing through many - TopicsExpress

MY EXPERIENCE WITH FENUGREEK SEEDS: After combing through many preclinical and clinical studies regarding hypoglycaemic effect of fenugreek seeds I decided to give it a fair try. I used roughly two tbsp of fenugreek seeds every day, soaked them over night in water and drank its gel like water on empty stomach next morning. I then added some more water into the same seeds for lunch time and started sprouting the left over seeds. I then started adding those sprouted fenugreek seeds as salad to my dinner. This way, I was consuming roughly 25 grams of fenugreek seeds every day. I continued doing so for three weeks. MY RESULTS were ..............IMPRESSIVE :) First two days I didnt notice much difference. Third day my fasting blood sugar started falling by 1-2 mmol (1 mmol/l = 18 mg/dl) which remained pretty consistent except twice when it was higher than normal (somogies effect perhaps). Much more pronounced effects were noted in post prandial readings. Both 1 hrPP and 2hrPP blood sugars were recorded carefully with different carbohydrate load. This is where I loved it the most ... my 1hrPP readings after 140 gram of carb load turned out to be between 9.1 to 9.9 mmol (~165-180 mg/dl) maximum where as my normal 1hrPP would jump high up in 13-14 mmol (220-250 mg/dl) on an average. As you can see the post prandial sugar levels with the addition of fenugreek all were within normal range where as before they were always quite higher than desired. Moreover, I consistently checked my blood sugars not only with different carb loads but also made sure not to work out during most of these days. Usually resistance exercises work best for me to keep my blood sugars down but during these 3 weeks I only worked out twice with weights and mostly relied upon mild stretching and tabatas. My verdict is totally in favour of adding ~ 25 grams of fenugreek to daily diet in divided dosages for 3-4 weeks as an intermittent adjunct to whatever antihypoglycemic medications one might be taking. I have shared both the actual studies and my own experience honestly. Please read and comb thru the details of many studies I have shared and then make your own well informed educated choice :) BTW, some studies also have shown that no hypoglycaemic benefit is observed with 10mg daily dose and minimum dose required for diabetics is 25-30 grams per day in divided doses. One study provided the results proving that consumption of fenugreek seeds is safe for non-diabetic obese persons too and didnt cause hypoglycaemia in healthy individuals. I had my HbA1c done just a week before starting my 21 days fenugreek trial. I have to wait for another 6-7 weeks before I can repeat my labs (q3 monthly time specified labs restriction here). Will keep you posted with hopefully much improved A1c :)
