MY FEARS: ELECT BUHARI AND LOSE EVERYTHING ♦ Politics aside, lets tell ourselves some obvious and irrefutable truths, as we ought always to do. Buhari, it must be noted, is a characteristic man of the worst and most detestable form of impunity and callousness. He does whatever he likes and likes whatever he does, no matter how wrong he is, and no matter whose ox is gored. The most valuable dividends of democracy are liberty, discussions, co-operation tolerance, consultation, free speech, separation of powers, etc and these are democratic virtues Buhari disdains and will never allow. ♦ If Buhari could divorce his first wife, Safinatu, in 1988 only for going to IBB to plead for his release from detention, ignoring the then Emir of Katsina who had pleaded in vain for the rescission of the unjustifiable decision, and if he could also refuse to forgive her even in death by his refusal to attend her burial on January 14, 2006, I fearfully wonder how unforgivingly he (Buhari) will react to whoever expresses an opinion divergent to his as a President. ♦ I fearfully wonder what will stop Buhari at pursuing a policy of total forceful Islamization of Nigeria if in 2001, at an Islamic seminar in Kaduna, he, not being a President, was given an opportunity to choose between Nigeria’s secularism and fundamentalist Islam, and he said; “I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria. God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.” vanguardngr/2014/12/insurgency-buharis-call-full-sharia/ ♦ I fearfully wonder the kind of fundamental Islamist and tribal / sectional President Buhari would be if, in spite of the killings of several Christians and Southerners at the onset of Boko Haram, he could have the audacity and temerity to fault the federal government’s clampdown on Boko Haram Islamic insurgents, accusing the government of killing and destroying their houses while the Niger Delta militants were allegedly given special treatment by the government. thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-faults-clampdown-on-boko-haram-members/ ♦If, as an ordinary Nigerian, Buhari could ignore and refuse to appear before the Oputa Panel, I fearfully wonder what he will do to the courts and the rule of law if, God forbid, he becomes the President of Nigeria. Speaking recently as one who would function as a military Head of State and as if forewarning that he will usurp the functions of the courts, muzzle and dictate to them, he said, I will jail looters, when it does not lay in the power of a President to do so. tribune.ng/news/top-stories/item/27483-i-will-jail-looters-buhari ♦ If, as the Sheikh Ahmed Lemu panel noted, the inflammatory comments made by Buhari prior to the April 2011 presidential election contributed to the violence leading to the death of several southerners, including serving NYSC members, in the North, and Buhari has, till date, not offered any apology, I fearfully wonder what other crimes he will not commit and get away with it as a President. igbofocus.co.uk/html/post-election_violence-_lemu_committee_blames_buhari.html ♦If Buhari, as a military Head of State, could use a fellow Northerner and Muslim as his second-in-command, ignoring even more intelligent and superior Southern soldiers and Christians, and if he could reiterate even recently that he did not mind fielding his fellow Muslim as his presidential running mate, seeing Christians as unworthy, Christians should brace up for the worst and hardest of times if, God forbid, Buhari becomes the President of Nigeria. tribune.ng/news/top-stories/item/23587-i-may-pick-muslim-running-mate-if-buhari/23587-i-may-pick-muslim-running-mate-if-buhari #ROUN
