MY JOURNEY TO ISLAM Lauren Booth a broadcaster and journalist, visited a family home in Rafa in the Gaza strip, Palestine. She was highly impressed by the way the lady owner of the house welcomed her and the way she was content with what little she had. Angry at her condition, when Lauren asked the lady why God starves poor people in Ramadan, she replied calmly, Sister we fast in Ramadan to remember the poor. That served as a key that went to Laurens heart and unlocked it. Even at the time, Islam was nowhere in her mind and she continued her daily life. Year before she converted to Islam, in Ramadan she travelled to Iran as a journalist and visited BiBi Fatima Mosque. She made wudhu as she knew how to and prayed to Allah (using the word Allah) for the people of Palestine. She was impressed with the business of the Mosque and felt an immense calmness and tranquility she had never known before. She slept that night on the mosque floor and the next morning, she woke up at the sound of Fajr and prayed Fajr. She came out of the mosque at the time of dawn with one specific thought: O, no... not Islam, please not Islam. While she was on her way back to London from Tehran in the plane, she thought happily that she can finally get rid of the scarf but she couldnt - her hands simply wouldnt take off the hijab. Seven days later she took her Shahadah in a London mosque in 2010 and returned to the first chapter of the Quran, Surah Fatiha.
