MY LITTLE SOAP BOX ABOUT HALLOWEEN.....indulge me we do TRUNK OR TREAT at church....Its an outreach to community, sure...but its still mainly just candy and showing how great our church is, and hey maybe you should come.... When I was a kid at LPC we called It the REFORMATION CELEBRATION---still dressed up, had games, fun hay rides and bouncy houses and CANDY....but we also showed a short film for kids of what the Reformation- OCt 31 is truly about...... I wish we still did that.......ANYWAYS....We will be the trunk that looks like a slumber party!!!---(Erika doesnt have to get dressed, or look presentable--high five to self for this one) dont know how many know this but Halloween and all its become is not what this date originally celebrated. Martin Luther back on Oct 31, 1517 NAILED to the door of Castle Church a theses with 94 points---taken from his study of Romans 1- introducing to world that Salvation is by Grace alone--- a totally new concept in the era. He was put in prison and sentanced to death if he would not recant. He did not recant. He went against the norm, against what the church at the time believed---salvation by works...... Luther sat in jail awaiting death....surely he questioned was he right, was he crazy? but God gave him the strength to stand in something far to heavy for him alone. There had to be times he didnt even know what to pray.... Romans 8:26-27 tells us that God PRAYS FOR US....whether we pray or not Jess and the Holy Spirit are interceding on our behalf. So no matter if we are in a season of rebellion, or just overwhelmed.....God will always be praying for us. ALWAYS. and this is what Oct 31 really is about---- REFORMATION SUNDAY----when it was introduced to the world that Salvation is by Grace alone....... and the real consequences Luther paid for it.
