MY LOST RADIO: Prior to starting a new series of forwarding my choice of vintage music for my knowledgeable facebook friends, I want to share the story of our familys lost treasure - a vintage radio. My maternal grand father the Late Dr. H.S. Sangha acquired a GEC radio in 1939, prior to World War II. He gave it to my mother in her wedding in 1942. It was working until 1966. I was operating it for 20 years, when it became unrapairable. It was my toy and I played with it for my listening pleasure. I listened to among others Radio Ceylon, The BBC, Radio Pakistan Karachi, Radio Iran Zahidan, Radio Kabul, Radio Moscow, the Shortwave Service of Vividh Bharati, plus the Indian and Pakistani medium-wave radio stations on it. It had a beautiful sound and it developed my taste for good music. In 1966, I graduated to a better PHILIPS MAESTO-II radio, which still works. But the old relic GEC Radio always remained nostalgic and dearest to my heart. During the 1980s, a repair man promised to restore it, but because of its unique shape and age, sold it to a collector perhaps for a handsome amount, but told us that it was stolen. I have lost the vintage radio, but retained the education I obtained through its prolonged use.
