MY REVIEW: The Lone Ranger (Disney, 2013) I found the movie - TopicsExpress

MY REVIEW: The Lone Ranger (Disney, 2013) I found the movie predictable for the most part, but thats a given. Why, you ask? The radio program ran from the end of January, 1933, to September 3rd, 1954. It had 2,956 episodes (of which I have over 1,700 in my Old Time Radio collection.) It also had two serial films (these are short films designed to make the audience want to come back to the theater the next week as part of the previews), plus a TV show that ran for eight seasons, from 1949 to 1957. There were also a few feature films, including this one. Spun off from the radio program was The Green Hornet, who was The Lone Rangers nephew. Because of this, its difficult to come up with new material for such a wonderful classic show. Still, Disney did a decent job of it. I like the way they used the Indians to provide modern phrases (not so much; my name come up?); this added to the humor element. Johnny Depps use of bird feed was akin to Captain Jack Sparrows use of the word Peanut! Overall, its a fun movie. People that are sticklers to detail and fanatics of the original series might not like it as much. Remakes arent generally as good as the original (with one notable exception: Battlestar Galactica.) This one is no different, but younger audiences will most likely prefer it to the original stories. I would have given the movie a 7 (out of 10), but the music wasnt quite right in a number of spots. It wasnt bad -- it just wasnt phased-in right where they put it. So, I give it a 6 instead. - Danny Lee Stone
