MY VACATION - Part 3 STOCKHOLM Sweden itself consists of 401 islands. Depending on how you define islands. Stockholm has 14 islands so needless to say cruising in and out of Stockholm was stunning. (You will see a few pictures below) We took a canal ride (you will see a pattern here. In so many of our ports we did Canal tours as it really is a lovely way to see the cities without the traffic. We tooka transfer direct from the ship to a downtown area and walked a few steps to get on a Canal Tour. It was beautiful! When we returned from that we went to Gamla Stan which is a medieval city right in Stockholm. It was founded in 1252. Lots of cafes, shops with coblestone streets. We stopped for a Late and Beer and watched the sites. Really interesting! Then we were wandering around and saw the Opera House. We thought hmmmmm, can we go inside? Well we did. Nobody stopped us so we went upstairs and snooped around and then we ended up in a Restaurant / Bar that overlooked the city. The views were stunning. So another Late and Beer and just sat there watching the dynamics of the city. It was so pretty and absolutely surreal. You had to pinch yourself....we are in Sweden!!!! Walked back to where the shuttle was to pick us up and transferred back to the ship - about 15 minutes. Then sailing away again past the wonderful islands on our way to St Petersburg. Amazing Day!!!
