Ma. Theresa Mendez Zurita – New President of Scholars (LLICSA Executive Committee to be Filled Soon) LLI Scholarship Advisory, Oct. 31, 2014 New York City Ma. Theresa “Thess” Mendez Zurita from Barangay Maligaya, Lubang, takes over the presidency of the LLI College Scholars Association effective Nov. 15, 2014. She replaces Babylyn Bautista-Felix from Barangay Tagbac who has been the LLICSA president for over four years. Thess has graciously accepted her appointment as the new LLICSA president which has wide support from the alumni. Scholars close to her knew that she is amenable to lead the group, and she felt it right to do so now. Babylyn opted to step down as president due to her demanding schedule and commitment as a college instructor at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), head of a growing early learning school, and book writer. Her term is nothing short of outstanding. Thess earned an accountancy degree from the Central Colleges of the Philippines in 1995 as a working student and scholar. Her LLI college scholarship was sponsored by the LLI Southern California Chapter. She graduated 1st honorable from the Maligaya Elementary School and 2nd honorable from Stella Maris (high) School. She’s currently a Senior Supervisor – Finance at the Ascott The Residence, Capitaland (Singapore), Makati. At Ascott, she started as Income Auditor-Officer and got promoted to Supervsor - Audit and to Senior Supervisor - Finance/Audit before assuming her present position. She’s also active in volunteer community service. As president, Thess will also serve as chair of the LLICSA executive committee – the group’s governing and policy-making body. The executive committee members will be announced shortly. A smooth and orderly leadership transition in LLICSA is expected to be worked between Thess and Babylyn assisted by the members of the scholars’ core group.
