MacWorld 1996 at Moscone Center. Because our roster really did - TopicsExpress

MacWorld 1996 at Moscone Center. Because our roster really did read like a headhunters wish list, Hugh found himself in the position of presenting a demo for Avid on the floor for what was one of the best attended MacWorlds up to then, just as Steve Jobs was beginning his triumphant return to Apple. Hugh needed a project in order to demonstrate the cutting edge of computer based nonlinear video editing systems and wasnt it convenient that he was working on the SUNZ second music video Domino Falls at the time! There was no small amount of glee realizing that we had the ability to infiltrate and gently subvert one of the eras landmark tech events with our not so subtle brand of Infotising Presentainment (tm)... just as there was no small amount of surreality walking up to the presentation and seeing myself on dual screens scowling at the crowd holding a guitar festooned with dollar bills singing What do you know when you really dont know if what you know isnt what youre told? Later that week a small contingent of the SUNZ performed at an Anon Salon held for MacWorld attendees exploiting the need for the geeks to feel connected to the SF underground art scene. It was a pact with the devil to pander to them but the performing arts/all arts need to be subsidized and the wanna be hipsters, many going on to be the first wave of mega rich (on paper) internet entrepreneurs were willing to be pandered to. Which seems to be the prevailing mood of most internet usage these days. A coincidence? At this event we introduced our line of action figures (no kidding, Stryder made them out of the parts of real action figures to look like us), our concept for a Saturday morning cartoon series, our Psychographic business model and more, some of which Ill be posting later. Lets call it symbiotic and move forward because as much as we wanted to wise up the ones we couldnt scare away, by 1996 it was clear that the geeks werent going anywhere but that the arts would soon be gone due to the greed and gullibility that defined the tech bubble that popped in 2000. But we tried, dear friends, we tried to derail it because we really were in a position to get an advanced look at how bad it would get/has gotten. But dont Hugh and I look happy to be there ;-) -MW
