Machiavelli had stood by his feckless(incompetent,wicked)and ungrateful colleagues when less conscientious men had shirked their duty or profited at the publics expense, and instead of enriching himself with bribes that fell so easily into the pockets of those who worked in government service, he left office no better off than he had entered it. As he himself noted,my loyalty and honesty are proven by my poverty. The face of politics has always been corrupt, dishonest and wicked, they mislead and misuse its own citizens for personal gain.
