Madan’s arrest reflects BJP’s ‘vindictive’ attitude Kolkata 12 December: State pachayat minister Subrata Mukherjee today said that the arrest of State Transport Minister Madan Mitra, reflected a “revengeful and vindictive attitude of the BJP government”. The move had been afoot since the BJP national president Amit Shah addressed a party rally in the city on 30 November. “When he came to the city, he met with CBI officers and they are being used as a tool for political vendetta,” Mr Mukherjee said. The minister said the state government would bring a privilege motion as neither the state government nor the Speaker was informed of the arrest. “As per the law, the Speaker has to be informed before arresting a sitting MLA and must inform the government before arresting a Cabinet minister. We have come to know that the CBI is trying to slap various cases. He (Mitra) was called for interrogation as a witness but was arrested,” he said. The arrest, he insisted, clearly indicated it was pre-planned and the CBI had made up its mind to arrest him. “We are not afraid and Trinamul Congress can confront the BJP politically. TMC representatives will take up the matter in the Lok Sabha. It is an unprecedented incident, since the move is illegal and the Centre did not show any political courtesy,” the minister added. State education minister and Trinamul secretary general Partha Chatterjee said in the Lok Sabha party MPs had shown a red diary belonging to the Sahara group chief Subrata Ray in which names of the Prime Minister and BJP state president figured, but the Centre didnt responded to the MPs’ queries. He added a protest rally would be taken organsied by sports personalities in the city tomorrow against the Mr Mitras arrest. sns
