Made a start on riding the Shipwrights Way earlier today. It is a new 50 mile path which starts in the ancient woodland of Alice Holt and meanders through the villages, towns and beautiful countryside of east Hampshire before crossing the South Downs and on to the sea at Portsmouth. Along the way are twenty beautiful new sculptures, each depicting a story or aspect of the area where they stand. The subjects were suggested by local people and then carved by artist Richard Perry from creamy Portland stone. The following images show the first 4 of these:- a Butterfly, a Chained Tree, a Roman Pot and a Nightjar. My ride ended at Cradle Lane Ford.
