Mahidhar Mv asked me the following...about Velo solex Moped design ( Atlasolex..again Indian version of this Designer Classic machine ) 1)...How easy or difficult it is to handle a e wheeler like this .... and y do French people get such out of box ideas ? They gave motor on wheel thats used to steer the vehicle...... and any reason y they did that when they had option of mid or rear mounting .... insane 2)May be one can remove the engine easely and reduce weight and use it like cycle ... only logic I can think of. 3)@muthu uncle ....whats is advantage of this set up ? +++++++++++ Though am a firm believer in.. Understanding the Past will work wonders in Future !! ++++++ As most of my friends aware of my thought about LOOKS & NOTES.:-), which I give very little importance, but ....at times even this VERY LITTLE important thing, catches up with individual mind , pushing down many hiccups !! ********** Velo solex is little more than a motorized Bicycle.....tiny engine ..scant 45 cc..pumping out less than 1 HP.....will attain a top speed of 30kmph..rider end up pedaling with comical effort !! :-) In spite of such a anemic performance,OR may be even because of it, Velo Solex became huge hit in post-war France ..........& there is something Undeniably appealing about its SHAPE and its Concept !! Marcel Goudard & Marcel Mennessons design concept was gloriously simple & hearkened back to .. The very rubrics of Motorcycle design :-), which was solidly founded in France.....as most of us aware of !! The Michaux Perreaux...the very first Motorcycle was designed & patented in Paris in 1868...it compromised no more than a Velocipede with engine attached...... But Goudard & Mennesson did something even bolder ..( after approx 80 years:-) )...Instead of usual arrangement of GEARS, Chains to the wheel etc...bypassed all of that & bolted the Engine on to the Top of the Front fork....the rider built up speed by pedaling the bike, then at critical point :-)....HE or SHE ( it was most often She :-)..he!.hee!) leaned forward and using the LEVER dropped the Engine into contact withe FRONT WHEEL....thus the tiny friction wheel hitting the speeding TYRE , burst the Engine to life !!! .......it was charming & successful..resulting in production of many Millions....which is still made
