Major Fire Updates: Advice - Cliff Dr, Katoomba (as at 1915/7:15pm) A bush fire is burning in remote and rugged bushland near Cliff Drive and Cahills Lookout, west of Katoomba. 180 firefighters aided by six aircraft today constructed containment lines below Cahills Lookout and mopped up active edges of the fireground near homes. Crews will patrol the area and mop up fire affected areas during the night. Currently there is no direct threat to properties. The fire has reached the valley floor in a number of locations below Cahills Lookout and continues to burn along the cliff face below Cliff Drive. Although it is very difficult to access this part of the fire, Remote Area Fire Teams (RAFT) are currently working to contain the fire below the cliff. Residents in Cliff Drive, Brougham Street, Essendene Road and Moss Street should remain vigilant and continue to monitor the situation as there is still active fire in the area. Smoke from the fire will be visible during the next few days. The Bureau of Meteorology says tomorrow (Monday 3 November) is forecast to have a maximum temperature of 17C, relative humidity of 50 per cent and 20km/h E/NE winds. There is a 25 per cent chance of showers. ADVICE People in the area around Cliff Drive, Brougham Street, Essendene Road and Moss Street should continue to monitor the situation.
