Major Fire Updates | Watch and Act - Hall Road Fire, Balmoral Village (Southern Highlands / Wollondilly) 17:28 Over 270 firefighters continue to work on a fire burning near the villages of Alpine, Aylmerton, Balmoral, Yanderra, Bargo, Pheasants Nest, Wilton, Hill Top and Yerrinbool in the Southern Highlands. Current Situation This fire has burnt over 12,000ha and remains uncontained. The alert status currently is Watch and Act. Under forecasted north-westerly winds there is a potential threat of containment lines being breached and threatening the townships of Alpine, Aylmerton, Hill Top, Yerrinbool and Bargo. NSW Police have door knocked residents in Yerrinbool with information. Where conditions allow crews will continue backburning to strengthening containment lines. A TOTAL FIRE BAN is in force for the Illawarra/Shoalhaven area until further notice. Advice Residents in the vicinity of this fire are reminded to remain vigilent and monitor the situation closely as conditions will be changing frequently throughout the day. Check your Bush Fire Survival Plan and prepare for a bush fire in your area. If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early. Specifically designed, constructed or modified homes, prepared to the highest level, may provide safety. Advice (Illawarra residents) While there is no threat to properties in the Illawarra at this time, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and monitor the situation throughout the day. Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and prepare yourself for the potential of a bush fire in your area. Advice for residents relocating with animals Residents relocating with domestic pets and livestock who cannot make their own arrangements for temporary care should go to either: Moss Vale Showground, Robertson Rd Those with small animals should bring an appropriate cage, food, and any medications required. Please also be aware that road closures may occur without notice. These closures will continue to be assessed across the day, however, there is no forecast as to when these roads will reopen.
