Major changes will be taking place on Beacon Hill for 2015 BOSTON (WWLP) – A Republican governor will take over the Corner Office in January, the first since Mitt Romney’s term ended in 2007, and that’s not the only change expected at the top. Senate President Therese Murray did not seek re-election, presumably handing her coveted position to one of western Massachusetts own, Senate Majority Leader Stan Rosenberg of Amherst. He will be working alongside House Speaker Robert DeLeo, if he’s re-elected, and the new Governor-elect Charlie Baker. 22News called Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr to talk about the anticipated change. He said, “Even though there are still some strong Democratic majorities in the legislature, having a Republican governor in the Corner Office will help to bring about some more of that balance.” New members will be sworn-in in early January, and committee leaders will be appointed in the weeks to follow.
