Make a cup of tea because this is going to be a long one :) Firstly, well done to Alan and Jamie for hosting the biggest CrossFit team event in Ireland to date. It was very well ran, from online scoring to good judges and heaps of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly which always makes for a good event. Next, I want to thank our band of hardcore supporters, from Ciara Mc who came both days, to the fantastic 4 who left West Cork at 5.30am yesterday and probably didnt get home till close to 11pm. Personally, for me I love competing with the buzz of a crowd as it lifts me to bring out my best, the same can be said for Hills and before every event, looking into a massive crowd and seeing Killian walshs head above everyone else and then the rest of the Guerillas just lifted us to new heights. Going into the final we stuck to a plan and hearing Mars voice cheers us on for the muscle ups again was such a lift. Support is massive in this game as is keeps the demons away and for Guerilla fitness we travelled further than everyone else in that comp over the two days and we where as well supported as any team which is incredible. So thankful and so proud. Thank you to Emma Johnson, DJ THE GUN SHOW Glanton, Kaite Cronin, Killian Walsh, Ciara Mc and to the guys from yesterday for staying around, Voyteck, Marian, Ta and Olan. Saturday was an incredible day. 6 events which saw #squatslikemar do more then 5 reps :) and enter her first CrossFit comp with Tara Lee, Olan and Voyteck. Together they made an incredible team and personally for me there was two highlights from Saturday, firstly Voyteck and Ta who worked together brilliantly for a thruster burpee combo and killed everything around them, but the best part was Voyteck attempting to sprint to the mat to finish but his jelly legs wouldnt allow it. Also, the partner relay was a real highlight as Mar and Ta turned it on and left everyone for dead on the high rep cleans. After either winning or placing 2nd in most heats they where in 5th going into the final and with double points a shot of the prizes was a real possibility. However, being first on the wall balls ( the last part) and last off was as Voyteck put it best I think we just missed a little bit of luck However, what started out as some fun turned into alot more. I am as I said incredibly proud of these guys and their efforts throughout. In fact, they worked so hard none of them could event muster the strength to go on their big planned night out in the big smoke which speak volumes !!! On Sunday, the best of the best got together as super teams formed and the big boys rolled into town and we would have been in serious trouble had it not of been for GTS (Guerilla Training Systems) athlete Jenna coming in on such short notice for Cat who had to pull out, so thank you so much Jenna. Again, this was planned to be for fun, bit as many people said to me and knew me all to well up there, its just not in me and the competitor took over very quickly and noting but a win would do. It was incredibly exciting throughout the day as noting separated Crossfit Northern Ireland and 8020 who had amazing teams, however, our plan was to always try to get a big lead before the final, but we simply couldnt do it. but we knew with double points in the final that we would hands down win the final as it was going to go to the muscle ups. So we kept to our plan in each event. One of the highlights was the first WOD and seeing Howard go rep for rep with one of the best in Ireland Luke Ebron and the sprint finish and dead heat which set the tone for the day in many respects and it was always .01 of a second which separated ourselves 8020 and CFNI all day. In event two Hills made a winning call to work with Jenna and they won that event as Hills made the rope climbs look like play time, it was incredible to watch as myself and Howard took it nice and easy. In event 3, we all took part and it was a relay which again we took first in, but JUST, as everyone stuck to their plan and smashed it. Event 4 myself and Howard went out and we both gave everything we had but we had to settle for a 3rd place in our heat but I couldnt have asked for any more from the big man who gave everything in that event. Event 5 was the snatch ladder and I was up and I did just enough to keep us in 2nd just .5 of a point of the lead which made me ecstatic as I knew we had it then, I knew at that point when Niall told me where we finished that we where into the final with an event to go and the final was ours, I just knew it. So into event 6 which was a 3 person sprint with again only .01 of a second separating us from CFNI, they just wouldnt give up !! On to the final which turned out to be an incredible spectacle. However, their was only one thing we where thinking about and that was the end of the chipper and the muscle ups. I knew all weekend this was the make or break and we planned to take our time and leave other team go ahead if they wanted to push hard but not to panic. Everyone played a blinder as Howard Kenny and Jenna played a blinder as they took all the heavy grunt work and left myself and Hills take the glory as we finished the workout. Seriously though, we where blessed that we had a team with no egos so that when we needed to be fresh for the muscle ups in the end we where and because of the earlier grunt work was done myself and Hills just knocked out the 25 muscle ups with ease and 1st place overall was ours. Again this couldnt have been possible had it not of been for our support screaming loud above the other 400+ spectators, or the online support coming through and especially not without such a good team who worked so well together, who just used smarts to get through the day and win in the end. This was our first team comp and noting myself or Hills have ever done as an individual can compare to the buzz of winning with your own athletes and seeing you own athletes give more than they ever have before and its for this reason that this job is the best in the world as noting can give you more pride in what you do than to see that. I am so proud of you all. Finally, what makes this all the sweeter is knowing what while we had some of our superstar kingkongs dancing the night away at a Wedding in Kerry we could easily of had 3-4 team this weekend who I feel would all have done super and would all have made the finals as is the strength of this gym now. Also, well done to GTS athletes, Kevin Lynch and Rob Flangian who made the final yesterday and to Claire McGrath who was amazing also just missing the final. #heretotakeover #Guerillafamily #GTS
