Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14 NIV) Everyone!? Really? I went to Walmart and stood in line to return a DVD. After 15 minutes it was my turn with one of the two service associates. She looked at my case and the wrapping was torn, about two inches, and she said, We cant take this back. The packaging on the DVDs cannot be torn. Right at that moment I was not feeling holy and I responded in a firm unholy manner, Really!? Are kidding me? Do you think I could get the DVD through that tear? And that is just what I said and not what I was thinking. About that time the manager walked by and approved the return. I am pretty sure the young lady did not see the Lord in me at that moment and I knew it. More and more I know it. I totally get why living in peace with everyone and being holy works, but I cannot do it alone. If I had not spent time with our Lord that morning, if I were not trying to walk in his presence, if our relationship was not causing me to be more like him, I might even try to justify my heart and action all for a $5 movie. Hmmmmm. Lord have mercy on me. Something like this has probably never happened to you, right?
