Maku tasks Nigerians in Diaspora on nation building The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, has tasked Nigerians living abroad to contribute their quota in the development of the nation’s economy. Maku made the call at a public presentation of a book titled: ``Political Campaign Strategy’’, in Abuja on Monday. Nigerians in Diaspora, he said, could make meaningful contributions to government’s efforts at transforming the economy through ideas and innovations that could move the country forward. He said that China was able to develop its economy within a short period because of the contributions of its nationals in the Diaspora. Maku said Chinese nationals, especially those in America, returned home to invest in their country, transferring ideas that have made the Chinese economy the top in the world. ``I have always said that Nigerians all over the world can contribute to the development of this country. ``Everyone do not need to be here to be a good Nigerian and we do not all have to be in this country to be a good citizen. ``You can make your own contributions to national development. `` People can stay in any corner of this world and make impact here in Nigeria by giving us ideas, by investing in ideas that will develop our country. ``This is what the Chinese have done for decade and they have been able to develop their economy. ``With the ongoing reforms in the economy, it has open up the Nigeria society to private sector initiative. `` So, I believe Nigerians in Diaspora are highly placed in these areas, they can bring the ideas home,’’ he said. Maku said that in spite of the security challenges other countries were still coming into Nigeria to invest, noting that those in the Diaspora could also do same. He commended, Mr Godson Azu, the author of the book for contributing his quota to how political campaigns could be properly run to ensure hitch-free elections. In his remark, the author of the book said he was inspired by the need to contribute to a hitch-free 2015 elections. Azu said that politicians in Nigeria needed to start playing politics in accordance with internationally acceptable standards. He recommended the book for use by political parties, aspirants and their supporters as well as other relevant authorities in Nigeria.
