Malacañangs playing up of the countrys rise in the World Economic - TopicsExpress

Malacañangs playing up of the countrys rise in the World Economic Forum (WEF) rankings reveals its bias for private profits for a few over social development and progress for the majority. According to IBON, it is also an apparent effort to arrest rapidly growing public disapproval after failing to substantially improve Filipinos’ economic conditions. The WEF released its Global Competitiveness Report showing the Philippines climbed seven places to rank 52nd out of 140 countries. But the research group said that the WEF report is only meaningful for corporations seeking to do business and profit from the country. The report is prepared by and for corporations, their associations and think-tanks and is principally about lobbying governments to create the conditions for as much profit-making as possible.
