Malala was shot at and she should not have gone through what she went through. Lets get that aside first. However her global stardom is not about her standing up for the right of education for women. Her global prominence is because her tragedy was picked up by the West and used to sell Western political narrative on the War on Terror. The West and especially America and Britain want to present their occupation of Muslim lands and their plundering of resources of these lands as morally justifiable. So the West finds excuses to interfere in the affairs of the Muslim World, the latest of which is the War on Terror and the resultant occupation of Afghanistan. The Taliban phenomenon was and remains to be an issue linked with the occupation of Afghanistan. However the West doesnot want to present the Taliban of Afghanistan as freedom fighters, rather as terrorists and carriers of a medieval dark ideology. So if the Taliban are the dark forces, the Western troops are the Messiahs. However if Taliban are fighting to end the Western occupation of Afghanistan, then the West is seen as the occupiers. In this war of narratives Malala helped the Western narrative. And Yes ofcourse how could she have helped the West if Pakistans military and civilian rulers had not peddled out the same narrative which we hear from the West. But I am assuming that all of us take it as a given that our rulers are cheap Western agents. Moreover, the denial of education to women is not related to the religious beliefs of Muslims. Its more a tribal than a religious phenomenon. Infact almost all major Islamist movements have focused on culturing and educating people with Islamic thoughts. Malala was a child when she was attacked. But by willingly carrying the Western narrative she has chosen to take sides in the battle between West and the Muslim World. This is not about education. It is about colonialism. Bro Moez Mobeen
