Malcolm X stated that whoever controls the media, controls the minds of the people. ~ ~ ~ With so much negative and volatility in the news today regarding the police around the country, especially the shootings , killing, and the ongoing police abuse of young Black men by White police officers, there is widespread feelings of injustice by many. Is it any wonder that a major city’s police department in this country, the Chicago Police Department, would focus on a BLACK, “rogue, out of order, excessively abusive“ policeman ????? Watching Chicago’s PBS station, WTTW’s “Chicago Tonight” discuss this on Thursday, 8/28, the question of WHY this situation comes up NOW since what Officer Glenn Evans is alleged to have put a revolver down the throat of someone he was arresting TWO YEARS AGO? Since WTTW is quite a bit more thorough, objective, and informative in nature, the question was raised, also, as to what the residents of Officer Evan’s previous and his current Police districts felt about him. Interestingly, the “seniors” were said to love and respect him. His previous district was extremely sorry to see him transferred as they felt more secure while he was at the helm of that police district. It was said that the “young” residents, mind you, they were NOT referred to as “gang bangers” or problem youth this time, did not like him because they feared him. The residents in this officer’s current district expressed similar sentiments. Before any of you start spouting about police officers should behave themselves in a mild and guarded manner, let me say this: When you live in a major urban setting like the City of Chicago as I have for 50 years or more, you might be in a position to know the difference between killing/murdering people in cold blood, as well as regularly profiling/harassing citizens because of the color of their skin; and curbing the senseless violence of incorrigible youth and hardened criminals. There IS a difference. chicagotribune/news/local/breaking/chi-chicago-police-commander-glenn-evans-court-20140828-story.html
