Male belly-dancing aint for sissies! Its a little-known fact, but in the old Ottoman Empire, belly-dancing was performed by males (females being sequestered in harems). Now male belly-dancing is experiencing a resurgence in Turkey, ironically thanks to the new neo-conservative governments call for revival of traditional values and customs. The most famous male belly-dancer outside Turkey is Berlin dancer Zadiel, whose how-to videos are great fun, even if you dont speak German. In todays lesson, Zadiel shows us how to use a veil (Schleier in German). The trick, he says, is in the two-finger technique of holding the veil with index and middle finger to free up your wrists.
