‘Malicious damage’ is the term sometimes used for a wide range of criminal offences including intentional/reckless damage or destruction of property, graffiti and vandalism. Because they are ‘summary offences’, police must press charges against a suspect within 6 months of the date of the alleged offence. However, NSW Attorney General Brad Hazzard wants to extend this period to 2 years for graffiti offences – to ensure that less people ‘get away with it’.
