Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Emmanuel Mathias, has expressed his delight at having secured a loan move to Zambian side Zesco United, before returning to the Chloorkop giants next season. The Togolese international signed for Pitso Mosimane’s side at the start of the season, but could not be registered as part of the team as the Tshwane giants had already reached their quota of foreigners. The Siya crew revealed last week that he was training with Medeama FC in Ghana, with the 27-year-old player revealing his desire to get a club anywhere so that he could get a run for the remaining months of the campaign. It was revealed on the weekend that Mathias and new Sundowns signing, Hichani Himonde, are on their way to Zambia to link up with Zesco United on short-term deals. Speaking to the crew, Mathias said he was excited about the latest development in his career. “That’s what they tell me – I will be moving to Zesco United on loan. I have a contract with Sundowns and I needed to go elsewhere where I can play before going back to them next season. I will just have to go there and play. That’s the most important thing for me. I also don’t want to be sitting around and missing out on the chance to play for my national team. Our last game was against the Democratic Republic of Congo in September last year and, as we haven’t played since then, I still have a chance to play in our next game,” he said. Asked what he thinks his chance of playing looks like at Sundowns when he returns next season, he revealed, “I have to fight for my place there. If it happens that I’m not in their plans, I will have to move on and keep on playing wherever I go.”
