Mamie Evelyn Bridges Underwood went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2012. She was a woman of great strength, personal courage and had a very warm and caring heart. A consummate professional I am proud and honored to have known her and call her my friend. She will have a special place in my heart for as long as I live. She had a great impact not only on the lives and careers of many Soldiers throughout the many years that she was at the Delta schoolhouse but also to everyone who was fortunate to make her acquaintance. She started working at the schoolhouse while on active duty in September of 1981, after retiring from the Army in 1989; she took a one year hiatus before returning to the job that she loved so dearly. Through the years the success of the Delta program rested upon her shoulders. She was the rock and strength of the program always looking out for her students and fellow instructors. Ms. Underwood made a lasting impression on those who were lucky enough to know her, work with her or to be taught by her. Mamie, my heart is heavy and I miss you immeasurably. I think about you often, happy trails battle, until we meet again.
