Man Allegedly kills Girlfriend’s Brother in URR Tragedy struck the Upper River Region (URR) village of Numeyel recently after a young man allegedly hit a brother to his girlfriend with a cement brick on the head, leading to his death on the spot. Sources told the Daily Observer that the incident occurred after the accused, one Sulayman Camara, 20, had a bitter argument with his girlfriend’s younger brother, the late Muhammed Camara, 18, over the alleged beating of the latter’s sister. They explained that the accused allegedly beat the victim’s sister (the girlfriend) after he suspected her of cheating, leading to her being admitted at the Gambissara Health Centre for medical examination. “The accused person had been dating the victim’s sister for so long. It just happened that during a football match organised in the village, the accused saw her girlfriend standing with another boy on the side of the pitch and he felt jealous. Upon their return home, he beat the girlfriend to the point that she was rushed to Gambissara Health Centre where she was admitted for medical check-up,” a source explained. This, he said, provoked the late Muhammed to enquire as to why his sister could be beaten to that extent. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses also told the Daily Observer that the victim was reported to have expressed provocative sentiments against his alleged assassin. “As long as you people are slaves and we are noble, it will be over my dead body for you to marry my sister. Marriage is totally forbidden between us,” the victim was reported to have told Sulayman Camara. “After that argument, the victim attempted to move when he was suddenly hit from behind with a cement block, resulting to his death on spot,” the eyewitnesses added. The victim, according to them, was rushed to Gambissara Health Centre, but later in the same day, was transferred to Basse Health Centre; before being subsequently moved to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for postmortem. At the time of putting this piece together, the suspect was reported to be on the run and that the police have since launched a manhunt to trace his whereabouts. Sources told the Daily Observer that the police had arrested some people in Sotuma village in the Jimara district, where Sulayman Camara was reported to have spent the night before proceeding the following day. Meanwhile, the local dwellers in the area have totally condemned the latest tragedy and raised concern over the increase in violent crimes in the region.
