Mobly Banda, 26, of Zambia township is in police custody for allegedly murdering Vinford Zulu, 33, on suspicion that he was still having an affair with his former wife, Susan Mulubwa. Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary Tembo confirmed in an interview in Ndola yesterday that the incident happened on Friday. Mr Zulu had four children with Ms Mulubwa and on the fateful day around 19:00 hours, he went to her house to see the family. Ms Tembo said this incensed Mr Banda. “Banda was angry and he reached for a burning brazier and hit Mr Zulu on the forehead. “Mr Zulu bled profusely and he even failed to give a statement to police before he was rushed to Mokambo clinic,” Ms Tembo said. She said Mr Zulu was referred to Ronald Ross Hospital where he died the following day. Ms Tembo said Ms Mulubwa told police that Mr Zulu was quarrelsome and the former couple differed on several occasions when they were married. She said the bickering was worse after drinking sprees and this led to their divorce. “When Ms Mulubwa divorced Mr Zulu, she got married to [Mr] Banda with whom she has a child,” Ms Tembo said. She said Banda will appear in court soon.
