Man puts hose into the gall bladder of a live bear to extract bile. The perpetrator of this crime was jailed and fined for placing a hose in a live bear to remove and sell its gall bladder. Judge Jaesin Jo of the Changwon District Court sentences Mr. Park (51) to one year and six days in jail along with a 5 million won fine for violating the Special Measure of the Control of Pharmaceutical Affairs act. The court stated, “Since the revenue from this incident was high and the intentions of the perpetrator was misplaced, it is justifiable that the prison sentence is lengthy” Park with his three accomplices who were arrested or have warrants on them spent last July in Vietnam. There they gave bears, living in a bear farm, anesthesia in order to remove their gall bladder bile and sell it to tourist in 5 cc bags. In this way, Park made 130 million won (130,000 US) from July to October by selling Gall Bladder bile . His abuse of live animals has been acknowledged and his associates are currently under investigation and trials. Who would have thought to plunge a hose into the gall bladder of a live bear in order to extract and drink the bile? The defenseless bears were unable to defy the selfish nature of humans and suffered. Transactions such as these occur despite the Korean governments surveillance, even in China and Vietnam. The practice of removing bile for the gal bladder of a bear is highly unsanitary and there is a risk of contamination to both humans and the bear. Help us promote awareness and oppose this illegal and vile crime of extracting bile from live bears and the marketing of it.
