Manchester United have opened talks with Benfica to discuss the possibility of signing midfielder Nicolas Gaitan this summer according to the Express. The 26-year-old is an integral member of the Portuguese champions side and has attracted interest from a number of European clubs due to a number of eye catching displays. The Red Devils lacked both craft and creativity within their midfield ranks during a disappointing campaign that saw them record their lowest ever points total in the Premier League era and the Argentina international has been touted as the man able to provide it. Having announced thesigning of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao earlier in the week, new manager Louis van Gaal has started to restructure the squad he has inherited from David Moyes, but is willing to sanction the sale of another midfielder to secure Gaitan. Misfit Bebe has failed to make any impact on the Old Trafford first team during his team at the club and has reportedly been offered to Benfica as part of the deal. The 23-year-old has shown glimpses of fulfilling his potential while on loan at Pacos de Ferreira and could tempt Benfica to allow one of the prize assets complete a move to England’s top tier.
