Manchester United probable favourites to sign Fabregas, says Balague.... Manchester United have been described as probable favourites in the race to sign Francesc Fabregas, despite the fact that Arsenal believe their emotional ties will convince the Spaniard to return to the Emirates, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague. Balague, writing as a guest columnist for Bleacher Report, shed light on Fabregas’ situation at the Nou Camp, and confirmed that there was a very real possibility he could leave this summer. The midfielder has been continually linked with an exit from Catalonia in an anticipated revamp of the current squad, and Balague’s opinion runs in tandem with recent reports stating that the La Liga runners up would be prepared to sell him if their €40million valuation was met. Balague wrote: “The facts are simple. Cesc Fabregas has a buy-out clause on his contract for €40 million. Anyone turning up with that figure can have him.” However the Spanish football expert went one further, and played down talk that Arsene Wenger had the upper-hand when it came to luring Fabregas away from the Nou Camp. The Gunners have been named heavily in connection with re-signing their former captain, but Balague believes that it’s United, and Louis van Gaal’s transfer war-chest, who may have the last laugh. “My information is that, contrary to many people’s belief, while Arsenal may think they have an emotional pull on the player, they do not have a contractual first option on him,” he continued. “As things stand, Manchester United with a bulging treasure chest and a desire to invest in some of the world’s best players to resurrect their fortunes, are probably favourites.” Of course both Manchester City and Chelsea are also said to be keeping tabs on Fabregas, but for differing reason it looks unlikely that either are suited to provide him with a new home upon his return to English football. City are currently facing problems with regards to their breach of the Financial Fair Play rules, and Jose Mourinho already has a midfield bursting at the seems with talent.
