Mandate Fisheries Our mandate: The achievement of self sufficiency in fish production through the provision of appropriate infrastructure to enhance fish production and utilisation by the private sector. The development and modernisation of the means of production, processing, storage, and marketing of fish and shell fish Monitoring, control and surveillance of Nigeria’s marine and freshwater fisheries resources for the achievement of resource conservation in partnership with relevant research institutes, Law enforcement agencies. Transfer of appropriate and modern fisheries technology to end users and extensionists in linkage with relevant State based extension Agencies. Fish quality assurance and value addition to enhance foreign exchange earnings from exported shell fish and fin fish (Promotion of export trade in shrimps and fish products as a means of earning foreign exchange from non-oil sources Provision of fishing inputs to fishermen for increased fish production Improvement on the quality of life in fishing villages Reduction of post harvest fish losses Provision and Improvement of employment opportunities in the rural fishing communities thereby reducing rural urban migration, crime and criminality Acceleration and adoption of research in all aspects of fisheries Courtesy: FMARD
