Manpreet strongly condemns smear campaign against Raja Warring Chandigarh, July 22: People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today strongly condemned the smear campaign launched by the Parkash Singh Badal government against Congress MLA from Gidderbaha Amrinder Singh Raja Warring by involving his name in drug smuggling. In a statement, Manpreet said the state government had fallen too low to scuttle the voice of the MLA who had been vociferously taking up the issues concerning the people and pointing out wrong doings, non-performance and corruption of the Badal government. “It is a clear case of vendetta politics as Mansa SSP Bhupinder Singh Khatra has been used as an instrument by the ruling first family. He had earlier been transferred during the Lok Sabha election precisely because of his proximity to the ruling Badal family. He is part of what is known as the Lambi brigade, the group of police officers who have been posted as SHO Lambi during their service earlier and their loyalty is too well known”, he asserted, adding that this officer had also been earlier posted the Deputy SP, Gidderbaha. He questioned the controversial and dubious manner in which the name of the MLA had been linked to the drug smuggling although there was no evidence at all and the same had been admitted by the SSP himself. It was shocking that even before an iota of evidence, Khatra had gone public on this issue which clearly smacked of the vendetta politics. The voices of criticism against the government could not be curbed through such unscrupulous methods. He pointed out that in case of Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia whose name had been disclosed by former police officer turned smuggler Jagdish Bhola, even Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini had gone into fast forward mode to deny his involvement. The demand for a CBI probe into the wider network of drug smuggling had repeatedly been rejected by the state government. The PPP chief pointed out the pictures of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Majithia in the company of arrested smugglers had appeared in the media. However, different yardstick had been applied in these cases while the name of Raja Warring had been linked to smuggling within no time of the arrest of Gurlal Singh of Mansa from whom heroine had been seized. He warned the Badal government against resorting to such underhand means to crush the opponents and demanded that the investigation into drug smuggling in this border state should be handed over to the CBI.
