Many different views these days of when the church was organized. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus states: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. The word Peter in this verse, translated from the original Greek as petros, is translated as a small, rolling stone. The work rock in this verse, translated from the original Greek as petra, means solid, mother rock. The rock that the church was to be built on is CHRIST (see 1 Corinthians 10:4) Jesus is telling Peter (petros, a small rolling stone) that his (Jesus) church will be built on Christ (Petra, a solid rock) and will not be overcome. If the church you are attending has a doctrine that was written by a MAN or is based on some sort of modification of Scripture or began at some time after this event marking the beginning of Christs church, then I suggest that you do some serious research in Gods Word.
