Many friends and family member have expressed concern about Marie so here is a brief update. See was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night. For the past several weeks she has been finding it more and more difficult to swallow... to the point where she was only able to drink Ensure and water through a straw.This week she began having trouble drinking water and was becoming dehydrated. She has also been suffering from anxiety(imagine the feeling of your throat shutting down and constantly feeling that you are about to choke). Since being admitted, she has undergone several tests. Good news is that stroke and cancer have been ruled out. Probabilty of a neurological condition such as MS or ALS also seems to be slim. All of this news has come as a relief. Neuro, Gastro and attending Drs are being very thorough and doing more tests and giving her excellent care. The number one concern at this time is to get her to be able to eat and drink, and that is going well. The diagnosis is not yet determined, but it is leaning toward a motility disorder. These disorders are treatable, but would likely require a delicate balance of meds as Marie does have an existing reflux condition. Sorry if this is TMI, but Ive been sharing snippets of info to those who have asked that probably provided little insight.
