Many hands make light work Eighteen volunteers from Mitrais had recently participated in the YKIP KEMBALI distribution event that covered 12 districts across 4 regencies in Bali. During the event, additional support to cover for schooling necessities was dispensed to the children sponsored by KEMBALI. “I was so glad to be a part of KEMBALI distribution event. I was excited to volunteer because I could help YKIP support the children in continuing their education through this event,” said Filya Mustikawati, one of the volunteers from Mitrais. “I can’t wait to join the next one.” In this quarter, the donation distributed came in the form of a package of school supplies and also allowances to cover the expenses incurred by school related activities, such as transport, workbook, and extracurricular activities allowance. Especially for the elementary students, there was a deworming activity to keep their digestive system healthy. Mitrais Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Dian Assiddika expressed her delight at the volunteers’ adept handling of the tasks given to them, which effectively cut down the time required for each distribution. “Take our Karangasem distribution for example. We used to spend 4 hours minimum to handle more than 140 students, but this time, we only required one and half hours,” she reported. “Some of the volunteers, with their limited grasp of Balinese language, also tried their best to connect with the families of the children we sponsored who cannot speak fluent Indonesian. While there was a lot of fumbling involved on both sides, they managed to understand each other enough to have fun during the event.” YKIP, or Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi, is a foundation that strives to break the cycle of poverty through education and its KEMBALI program helps children from low-income family to continue their studies.
